On Saturday, June 22, Bristow’s Walmart held a car show in its parking lot to raise money for The Children’s Hospital at Saint Francis in Tulsa. The event also included additional attractions: an array of food trucks, first responders, a disc jockey playing music, goody giveaways, and the opportunity for children and adults to paint a Bristow police car.
Although car show registration raised $25 per car prior to the event and $30 per car on the day of the event, additional funds were raised through on-site monetary donations and donated snack and beverage sales. Car Show Coordinator Tarin Moore stated that, altogether, the event raised more than $ 1,000.
According to Moore, 19 vehicles participated in the car show, despite the searing sun and heat. Three young judges, who each spent time in the children's hospital earlier in their lives, chose three show winners. Judges Karson, Tinlee, and Kimber awarded 1st place to the red motorcycle, 2nd place to the red Chevelle, and 3rd place to the Mustang.
Moore noted the barbecue offerings of Boss’n Hogs BBQ were event favorites for attendees, Additionally, she said that everyone most enjoyed dancing with the DJ; although, children also loved being able to paint the BPD police car. Three children later described the painting experience as “the best” and “so cool”.
Finally, Moore conveyed special appreciation to Depew and Bristow first responders for bringing their fire trucks and police cars to the event and interacting with children and all in attendance. First responders visited with everyone, gifting children stickers and a chance to interact with them and their emergency vehicles. Some young children most loved painting the police car and excitedly hopped up and down in a nearby parking lot, chatting about the experience.
Those who missed out on the fun this year can look forward to next year’s event as all organizers plan to bring back the car show annually in support of the children’s hospital in Tulsa.
