Residents of Bristow, Depew, Milfay, Gypsy, Slick, Shamrock, Drumright, Olive & Lawrence Creek visited the
OSU Community Wellness Programs' booth at the Bristow Artisans' and Gardeners' Market last Saturday morning to make the medication lockbox and disposal kit giveaway a success. A total of 73 boxes and kits were disbursed to households. The Creek County communities came together to prevent medication abuse, addiction, and accidental overdose by securing safe storage and disposal kits.
The communities offer special thanks to OSU Community Wellness Programs, Sooner Success, and Creek County Substance Abuse Prevention Partnership for securing the grants that provided the lockboxes and kits and coordinating the event. Creek County residents extend additional expressions of gratitude to the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration for providing the funding via the grants.
Another lockbox event will be held later in June or during July for interested Creek County residents who may have missed out on the first giveaway. For additional information, please contact Sarah Emrich at sarah.m.emrich@okstate.edu.
