COVID-19 still taking lives

The COVID-19 virus continues affecting people across the nation. As of Monday, there has been reported a total of 32,077,178 cases across the United States and taking the lives of 572,200. Oklahoma has reported 445,649 cases since the pandemic began a year ago and 6,716 deaths. Creek County is reporting a total of 445,649 with 6,716 deaths and Bristow is holding at 940 cases and 32 deaths.

The Oklahoma Health Department is reporting that a total of over 2.5 million vaccines have been administered with 914,183 completed doses, meaning that ones who have taken the Pfizer and Moderna have completed their second dose. The one dose Johnson and Johnson vaccine was pulled from administering for a while due to a few people showing signs of blood clots after taking the vaccine, but the Center For Disease Control and FDA has put it back on the market, stating they found know evidence that the vaccine is was linked to blood clotting. They say the vaccine is safe and effective.

According to a press release on Friday by the deputy state epidemiologist, at least one person in Oklahoma has died due to COVID-19, the illness caused by the coronavirus, after the person received the coronavirus vaccine. This death is still under investigation. One hundred thirty-seven people in Oklahoma have contracted coronavirus after being vaccinated and nine have been hospitalized.

There were 97.8 new cases per 100,000 people in Oklahoma during the past two weeks to rank 48th in the country for new cases per capita, according to the Johns Hopkins data.
