The Bristow Police Department has been kept busy recently, keeping the community safe. A Bristow Police officer conducted a routine traffic stop over the weekend and seized a fair quanity of fentanyl. The amount was enough for trafficking. One person was arrested and the case is still under investigation.
In another incident, and separate from the above, the Bristow Police Department along with the District 24 Drug and Violent Crimes Task Force, served a warrant on a Bristow residence. Fentanyl, methamphetamine and paraphernalia were located at the residence, along with a substantial amount of money, and other items. One person was taken into custody and according to the BPD, they will be seeking a warrant for two others. Currently names are being withheld due to both cases still being under investigation.
Fentanyl is a potent synthetic opioid and is highly dangerous. It is 50-100 times stronger than morphine. Because of its powerful opioid properties, Fentanyl is also diverted for abuse. Fentanyl is added to heroin to increase its potency, or be disguised as highly potent heroin. Many users believe that they are purchasing heroin and actually don’t know that they are purchasing fentanyl – which often results in overdose deaths. An amount of fentanyl the size of a grain of salt can kill a person.
On Monday, March 6, a follow up investigation yielded a significant amount of methamphetamine as well as a loaded firearm.
Police are continuing to pursue leads in this investigation.
Thanks to the BPD and the task force, some narcotics were taken off the streets of Bristow.
