DEQ Burn Site Closed
In the last week, the Oklahoma Department of Environmental Quality closed the open burn pit site near the Bristow Golf Course. The site has operated in preceding months and assisted with natural debris disposal.
Beloved Delivery & Taxi Service Restored
On social media, Janet Taylor announced the return of her Taylor-Made taxi and delivery service to the Bristow community. In her absence, Bristowans experienced more of a public transportation drought with only Cimarron Public Transport available. Taylor-Made Delivery and Taxi reopened on Monday, March 18.
Library Hosts Speaker
At 6 p.m. on Monday, March 25, Bristow Public Library hosted a meeting with virtual speaker Dr. Temple Grandin. Advocates for persons on the autism spectrum and neurodivergents, support group members, and the general public were invited to attend. Questions for Dr. Grandin were accepted during the meeting and by email. The meeting addressed skill building and education for affected parties as well as helping family, friends, and the public learn to advocate for neurodivergent affected individuals.
City Pool Progress
Park and Lake Massena visitors were greeted by visible progress with city pool renovations as workers assembled and erected water slides on its southwest corner in the previous two weeks. Children and adults alike expressed excitement at the possibility of the Bristow City Pool opening for the first time in 5 years.
CDO Prepares for Its Famous Annual Garage Sale
Each year, Elaine Murphy, director of the Methodist Children’s Day Out program, accepts donations and throws a massive garage sale out of the Rhanda Foster building behind the First United Methodist Church at the intersection of East 7th Avenue and North Chestnut Street. Last year, the sale was held in conjunction with the 100-mile yard sale across northeast Oklahoma. The program began accepting donations after Christmas, and organizers have been busily organizing and pricing donations for their upcoming sale later this spring.
Seasonal Self-Serve Recreational Rentals Coming to Town
On social media, Mayor Kris Wyatt recently announced that an appbased, self-serve kayak and stand-up-paddleboard, SUP, rental stand will arrive in Bristow for local use this summer. The rental will be a private business venture as opposed to one owned and operated by the City of Bristow. Area residents shared optimism and hope for the venture’s success online with many excitedly awaiting fun during summer.
