William Paulding Grieves Jr. “Bill” was born Dec. 4, 1936, to Harriett and William Grieves in Fort Benning, Georgia. He departed this life June 6, 2021, at the age of 84 surrounded by his wife and family.
Bill, as many knew him, had been a Mason area resident since 2002. He and his family came to the area from Midland, Virginia. Bill also called such places as Birmingham, Alabama and various other military bases home with Fort Sill, Oklahoma being his favorite.
Bill and Nancy were united in marriage May 25, 1973, sharing 48 years of love and laughter.
Bill attended many schools growing up, including Carlisle High School and Marion Military Institute. He furthered his education by obtaining a bachelor’s degree in mathematics with a minor in physics and history from Jacksonville State University, but true to life learning never ended for Bill.
Being mechanically minded, he was a problem solver. While growing strawberries and later peaches alongside raising horses on the family farm, ideas were born and brought to life. He was a “Jack of all Trades; Master of Most”. Bill managed gas stations, car washes as well as other businesses. He was a great husband, dad and granddaddy, who cared deeply for his family and did what needed to be done when it came to supporting and caring for his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Bill loved to travel. Some of his favorite places included: Chincoteague, Virginia; Mount Scott, Oklahoma; Skyline Drive, Virginia; Birmingham, Alabama and any back road that he had never been on before; just to see where it would take him. He held in high regard the Marion Military Institute and visited there on occasion. Bill was a believer in his Lord Jesus Christ and Savior.
Bill is survived by his wife, Nancy, of Mason, five children, Lisa Wintermute, Lori Peglow, Bonnie Collier, Jim Grieves, and Robert Sizemore; his sisters, Scott G. Noel, Sally E. Floyd and Mary B. Smith; his grandchildren: Aaron, Amber, Candice, Lena, Brandon, Jared, Janie, Jaymes, Luis, Alyssa, William and Alex; great grandchildren, Stephanie, Emily, Madison, Lilly, Addison, Ella, Matthew, William, Benjamin, Austin, Jocelyn, Juliana, Xander, Ledger, and Layla.
He was preceded in death by his parents and granddaughter Miranda Jo Tyler Thacker.
Memorial Services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, June 17, 2021, at United Methodist Church in Bristow.
