Do you sometimes become frustrated with young people? You have possibly made foolish choices when you were younger, and regret it now. You probably know that lives are seriously changed when logic is abandoned before destructive behavior.
There was a teenage boy whose job was detailing vehicles. He worked for an uncle. Wealthy people often used his services. One day, after completing a special detail but before delivering the expensive sports car, he wanted to feel the thrill of pushing it to the limit.
So, Robby drove the car to an isolated road. Few houses, but many trees lined this littleused roadway. Unfortunately, as he gained speed, he failed to see the large pothole ahead. Slamming into the deep obstruction, he lost control. The small sports car went airborne.
His mangled, bloody young body was eventually discovered by a passing motorist. Robby became paralyzed from the waist down.In an instant! One foolish decision! A single poor choice!
Does age matter? Most young men are immature and still ignorant of the consequences. It’s foolish! It has eternal disappointments!
Our society isn’t limited by age when it comes to foolishness. Older people, who should know better, often make similar decisions with nearly the same consequences.
Drunk driving often destroys families. Road rage is as common today as family picnics once were. Lives are destroyed because older, more “responsible” people choose to act foolishly. In a moment of anger impulsive decisions often have life-changing effects.
When Jesus taught the multitudes, it wasn’t teenagers who needed a reality check. He was even critical of His own disciples for their foolish behavior (Matthew 17:17). Jesus was critical of the older folks, too (Matthew 23:1336).
Religious leaders in Jesus’ day foolishly chose man’s traditions and teachings rather than God’s. According to Jewish customs, these were older men who had studied Scripture for much of their lives. Yet, they rejected the heart of God!
“God’s so-called “nonsense” is still wiser than the so-called “wisdom” of human beings. And, His so-called “weakness” is still stronger than man’s socalled “strength” (1 Corinthians 1:25-30).
Why does age matter? When it comes to Jesus, age doesn’t matter. Have you made the wise choice to come to Jesus?
