Deanna Sue Smith, 1943 - 2021

Deanna Sue Smith was born November 8, 1943, to Robert Ralph and Bessie Pearl Weir in Los Angeles, California. She departed this life August 22, 2021at the age of 77.

After graduating high school, she attended the University of Oklahoma where she would receive her Bachelor of Science degree in Education. On June 22, 1962 she was united in marriage to Clifford Smith. From this union two children were born, Lesley and Scott.

The family moved to Bristow in 1978 to begin a new venture and the beginning of KREK radio station. Together they successfully operated the station over 36 years. She was the on-air personality for the station for most of its existence. Deanna volunteered at Rainbow Nursing Home teaching Sunday school. As well, she had served as the director of Bristow Social Services. She enjoyed traveling around the United States, Canada, and Brazil. Her true joy in life came when she was able to spend time with her four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband 59 years, Clifford Smith of the Bristow home; daughter, Lesley McCray and husband Gary of Broken Arrow; son, Scott Smith of Denison, Texas; sister, Patsy Hogan of Temple, Texas; four grandchildren, Shila Calvert and husband Derrick of Sapulpa, Brandon Smith of Durant, Leanna McCray of Broken Arrow, and Parker McCray of Broken Arrow; two great grandchildren Kaidince and Audrey Calvert of Sapulpa. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert, and Bessie Weir and one brother, Bob Weir. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or Bristow Social Services. Services are under the direction of Hutchins Maples Matherly Funeral Home.
