Maddison’s Corner

It is officially summer break and I already have no idea what to do with my time, the curse of every highschool student. Every summer I start out with all these big ideas about what I am going to do, or who I will spend time with; none of it ever happens, primarily at the fault of my own. So, this summer I am heading in blind, with no expectations whatsoever. This means though that I am looking for things to do by myself.

A few years ago I took up crocheting and knitting, I read a lot, I drew and painted, sketched with alcohol markers, made bracelets, and now I need a new hobby. The question though, is what is the best summertime hobby? I could take up cooking except it gets pretty expensive and I could be considered a picky eater. I thought about gardening too, but I am not exactly known for my patience. I like things that yield immediate results, as I am sure you could tell from the list of things I have tried. It is really difficult to find something that is not time consuming, is enjoyable, and doesn’t require the virtue of patience.

I, also, have plans to volunteer this summer and do a few things for school, so that makes things a bit harder. I think there should be more passive hobbies. In my experience, having a passtime is so time consuming. Granted, it is in the name, but I mean truly. Every hobby I have ever had takes hours to reach any sort of result you might be proud of. Even baking bread. I guess that it is the privilege of having a hobby though, you are blessed with the time to do something aimlessly tedious with no explanation other than that you are doing it for your own enjoyment. Which makes me feel even stronger about the need to pick up a new hobby this summer, if I have the time, because I do not want to waste another summer.
