Who does Jesus support -- Democrats, Republicans, Israelis, or Hamas Terrorists?

In Jesus’ days on earth, there were only two major government rules. He appeared during Roman rule, but his heritage placed Him in the Hebrew nation. Rome merely tolerated the Jewish religion.

This “separation of religion and state” freed Jewish life from Rome’s interference. The Sanhedrin, the governing Jewish Council, handled religious questions. The Roman government dictated all civil matters.

All people answered to Rome’s rule of law, except in religious matters.

The Jews pushed Jesus to cross the line, making Him an enemy of the state. When Romans found no fault in Jesus, Jewish leaders brought in “nere’-dowell” citizens. These liars and accusers were glad to provide false testimony against Jesus. They twisted what He said to discredit Him to Rome. I’m happy we don’t have that in today’s political environment! Or, do we?

In the current American political climate and the hatefulness of Republicans against Democrats, and vice-versa, words are twisted to discredit opposing candidates. Families are divided! Friends are divided! Even churches are divided!

Are you thinking, “It’s OK for them to disagree with me? After all, someone has to be wrong!”

When a lack of love and compassion is the driving force for being right, Jesus never supports that. Jesus came into our world bringing love and mercy, not division! He came to bring people together under one umbrella HUMANITY! How do you view others? Are they scoundrels if their personal views align more with Republicans? What if your political views align more with Democrats? Do you avoid arguments or instigate them?

Did Jesus come to divide our nation or does He want us unified in love? The Holy Spirit, who lives in every Christian, wants to reach out to others in love and mercy. Are you doing that?

Rome was considered the great oppressor of the Jewish nation. If you look down on someone for their political views, how is that different from Roman oppression? Jews had nothing but disdain for Romans! Which side does Jesus support?

The clearest commandment that Jesus gave His disciples is this: “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this, everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love one another.” (John13:34-35).

Jesus wants His followers to promote peace among all people, through love. Not everyone accepts that. Those who do accept His command to love others will live by it.

Loving others doesn’t mean you accept their values, but that you want the best for them. Accepting Jesus’ rule is all that matters!
