Town Sqaure receives renovation

The Route 66 Landmark Renovation Project was begun by the Historical Society to preserve and restore four local, historic landmarks - Town Square, the Frisco Depot, the Frisco water tower, and the Chrysler Tower neon sign. The first priority of these four projects is Town Square since it affects Main Street businesses, travelers, and local citizens daily.

A flurry of activity is occurring in the heart of historic downtown Bristow as the Bristow Historical Society works to complete Phase One of the Town Square renovation. Town Square was built in 2002 and offers a beautiful welcome to downtown Bristow for Route 66 travelers and locals alike. Over the decades it had fallen into disrepair, however, the towering roof areas are being repaired and new tiles are replacing those that were broken. Phase One will open this area for foot traffic once again while also providing a beautiful view of the Depot Museum from Main Street, as was envisioned when the project was originally built.

Funds are still being raised to complete Phase Two which will place plaques and seating in the area while still leaving the area open for events. The Historical Society is working with Tulsa's Signature Quartet to bring a free concert to the area in May of next year and is excited about the possibilities this area will offer for our community.

The Historical Society would like to thank TH Rogers Lumber Company and B & B Roofing and Construction for their help with this project. We also appreciate each person who has made a donation for this renovation. Once completed, workers will move forward with repairs to the historic Frisco Depot as the Historical Society works hard to complete this enormous project before the 100th anniversary of Route 66 in 2026. Great things are coming to the Bristow area and we're proud to be part of the process. If you have considered becoming a volunteer at the depot, please contact us today. It's easy and we will find a place for you on our team. Also, you still have time to order personalized bricks, which will be part of the Chrysler Tower Plaza. You can place your order at www.bristowhistory. org. Today is a great day to help us move closer to finishing this dream. Thanks for dreaming big with us Bristow.
